Is it true that if you wear keep on wearing your glasses, your vision will get worse?

My aunt says that my vision is so bad because I wear my glasses almost 24/7 (except when I'm sleeping and stuff like that). I can't help but wear them all day long because I can only see blurs without them. (btw: they're -400)

So is it true that my vision gets worse because I wear my glasses all day long? Or is it a myth?Is it true that if you wear keep on wearing your glasses, your vision will get worse?
It's a myth. If you are still young (like 20-25 or younger), your eyes are going to be changing a lot. This means your eyes will probably be getting a lot worse until your eyes level off when you are around 20-25 (it depends on hormones and other things). So wear the glasses as much as you can if you need them (which you should if they are both -4.00). Or get contacts--they can stabilize your eyes/prescription since they cover your cornea all day long. Your eyes may not change as much if you get contacts (though they still will change some).

At any rate, your aunt's assertion has not been proved true.Is it true that if you wear keep on wearing your glasses, your vision will get worse?
I'm no specialist, but I wore strong-prescription glasses for a couple years and got fed up with my constantly worsening vision. No matter how strong the prescription was, I could not get perfect vision. After I switched to contacts, my vision was perfect and did not get any worse. So I would look into contacts if your sight seems to be getting worse every year and you're willing to pay for them.
That is completely false. Tell your Aunt that if you do not wear your eyeglasses that you will not be able to see. Tell her she can call any eye doctor and they will tell her the same thing. False false false.
Your vision will get worse but not because of your glasses. Simply because vision fails over time and it will get progressively worse no matter what you do.
No it is not. You have to wear them. Good luck and God bless you.
No, it doesn't. =]

I have really bad vision also. -350 on my right eye and -425 on my left and I have astigmatism.I wear my glasses all the time. =]

Wearing your glasses helps you see, and if wearing them all of the time destroys your vision, then that kind of defeats the purpose though, doesn't it?

My sister's vision is just as horrible as mine and she wears her glasses nearly 24/7.

However, her vision has started to stabalize and she doesn't require a stronger prescription. (We had a checkup last week and she got her glasses 2 years ago)

As you get older your vision startes to stabalize on its own.

There are also studies that have show that wearing certain types of contact lenses (RGPs) can slow down myopia (nearsightedness)

But when you get older, you can certainly consider lasik surgery. :)

My friend had recieved it and now her vision is 25/20 and she had been wearing contacts since she was 9. She is now 28.

I hope I could help!
Yes, that's why people get a stronger prescription, the next time they need a new pair of glasses, the prescription pulls your eye muscles to see clearly, so when you are not wearing your glasses it is even harder for your eyes to focus.

you will need to talk to your eye doctor, but laser eye surgery may be a good option.
