IS IT TRUE THAT YOU CAN BE DISQUALIFED FROM THE MILITARY IF UR VISION DOSENT REACH A CERTAIN POINR?

I GOT A SERIOUS QUESTION MY COUSIN WENT TO THE [MEPS] MILITARY ENTRANCE PROCCESSING STATION YESTERDAY HE JUST GOT BACK HE PASSED THE PHYSICAL BUT FAILED THE ASVAB BY A FEW POINTS.BUT MY MAIN QUESTION IS HIS RECURTIR TOLD HIM THAT HE IS DISQULIFED BECAUSE IN ONE EYE HIS VISON IS -11.25 IS IT TRUE? HE WANTS TO JOIN THE COAST GUARD AND I BELIVE HES A GOOD CANDIATE EVEN THOUGH HE FAILED THE ASVAB HE SOMEHOW GOT THE TEST WAIVED BECAUSE HE DIDNT FAIL BY THAT MUCH I BEILVE BUT IS THERE ANYWAY POSSIBLE HE CAN ARGUE AND POSSIBLY HAVE A CHANCE TO JOIN THE COAST GUARD? IS IT TRUE THAT YOU CAN BE DISQUALIFED FROM THE MILITARY IF UR VISION DOSENT REACH A CERTAIN POINR?
One doesn't ';fail'; the ASVAB, but for the USCG, if you score below 36, you don't qualify, and that is rarely waived... the Standards for all branches are not very high, in regards to the ASVAB... 36 is low as heck, and as for the waiver, just take it again, after so long, study in the mean time.. a higher score opens more opportunities.

His eyesight is a confusing point, usually the measurement is something like 20/20, or 20/100 in 1 eye, correctable to 20/20, or even 20/40... but -11.25?

I think he needs to ask for clarification on that.IS IT TRUE THAT YOU CAN BE DISQUALIFED FROM THE MILITARY IF UR VISION DOSENT REACH A CERTAIN POINR?
It wasn't his ';vision';. It was his refractive error. And that cannot exceed plus or minus eight diopters for entry into the armed forces, regardless of what his vision is when corrected by glasses or contact lenses. Since he failed the ASVAB, he probably won't pass the Armed Forces Qualification Test (AFQT), so he isn't someone who the recruiter will submit for a medical waiver regarding his refractive error. The source below is the medical standard for his condition.
