Some things to clarify:
1) You do NOT need to have 20/20 vision to join the Air Force. You must have correctable vision to under 20/50 (ie, can be treated using contacts/glasses)
2) You do NOT need to have 20/20 to be a pilot. The only thing that stopped ME from being a pilot is the fact that my right eye is worse than 20/50 unaided (and 20/50 is the standard). When I applied for joining, there was not yet a waiver for the surgery.
3) You can now have surgery, yes, but you CANNOT have lasik. Lasik leaves the retina permanently damaged and in high G manuevers the retina can tear causing massive damage and/or blindness. Is it true that you have to have a 20 - 20 vision to join the military air force??
Yes. you must have 20/20 to compete with the other candidates. You can ask for a waiver if you are correctable, but it may limit your choices. The best thing to do, is go apply for a first-class medical with a designated aviation medical examiner. If you can't obtain one, the Air Force wont take you either.
Good luck to you!Is it true that you have to have a 20 - 20 vision to join the military air force??
Depends on the service.
Airforce is strict but may allow corrective surgery, Lasik, in some cases.
Army not as strict with choppers
Look on specific websites for specific armed force.
You also can petition for medical exception, granted about 50-60% of time but hassle.
You only have to have 20/20 to fly for the air force not to join it.
NO! My dad was in the Air Force for 22 years and he wears glasses and is deaf in one ear! You only have to have 20-20 vision if your going to be a pilot. If your going into the Air Force you picked a great branch of the Military! Not that I'm biased or anything :) All branches of our Military are GREAT! Good Luck and thank you for wanting to support our country in this way!
No, I think the unaided vision minimum is lower than 20/40.
Only if you need to see. You might try the un-miltary air force.
No. You have to have at least 20/20 vision to fly.
no. but you probably need to have at least that to fly.
honestly, i hope not. I'm going to figure out here in a second once i do a google search.
no
You don't have to have a natural 20/20 vision. you can wear contacts and glasses to correct your vision. It doesn't even really have to be 20/20 but close. You have to have a natural 20/20 vision to be a pilot and some other very specific jobs. My husband is a crew chief, he wears glasses.
no you dont as long as you are not blind and you can get eye glasses they will let you in. look around there are military people with eye glasses. so good luck try this web site http://forums.jolt.co.uk/archive/index.php/t-320866.html it looks like you dont have to be 20/20 to get in the military only to be a pilot
No. If you want to fly the eye requirements are higher than everyone else. Like it you want to be a sniper then I would think that you would want better vision. Cheers
